Baabuk introduces the groundbreaking Shunya Wooler—The 1% Plastic Sneaker, setting a new standard in footwear innovation. Responding to the call from our global community of Baabuk fans for a completely leather-free sneaker, we proudly present the Shunya Wooler. Instead of simply replacing leather with commonly used plastic-based vegan materials, we took it a step further, as usual at Baabuk and set the mission to craft a plastic-free sneaker.

The Shunya Wooler embodies our commitment to surround wool, an organic, biodegradable material, with as many natural and plastic-free components as possible. This limited edition represents the pinnacle of sustainable design, where pristine natural materials intersect with conscious, eco-friendly innovation and over all: 100% transparency, no greenwashing.

Wool

As the cornerstone of all Baabuk shoes, wool is a testament to timeless utility and comfort. Sourced ethically, this natural fiber offers unparalleled breathability and a soft touch. Wool's inherent qualities ensure that each pair of shoes is not only durable but also thermoregulating, anti-bacterial and water repellent.

MIRUM®

A revolutionary Vegan and 100% plastic free alternative to traditional leather, that is both flexible and abrasion resistant, MIRUM® is incorporated into the upper of the leather-free Shunya Wooler. This plant-based material stands out for its sustainability and low environmental footprint. It mirrors the tactile richness and durability of leather while being completely free from plastic. Mainly composed with natural rubber, vegetable oil, natural pigments and responsible minerals.

PLIANT®

Used in the outsoles, PLIANT™ is made with sustainably sourced natural rubber and NFW’s patented plant-based curative. A groundbreaking material that redefines flexibility and endurance in eco-friendly footwear, both naturally circular and mechanically recyclable. This material combines robust performance with a soft, comfortable feel, ensuring that each step is as gentle on the planet as it is on your feet.

Lyocell

Featured in the stitching yarn, Lyocell tencel™ is a cellulose fiber known for its strength and smooth finish. It offers moisture-wicking properties making it ideal for stitching that holds without compromising on comfort. The processes that normally accompany other “natural” fibers such as bleaching, washing and sterilizing are absent, making lyocell much more environmentally friendly overall. This eco-friendly material complements the shoe’s design with its functional elegance and sustainability.

Eucalyptus Tencel™

Utilized in the strobel material, 100% biodegradable and FSC-certified. Eucalyptus fiber is celebrated for its natural softness and antimicrobial properties. It provides a cooling effect and excellent moisture management, enhancing the internal climate of the shoe and ensuring comfort throughout the day.

Sisal Agave Fibers

Chosen for the footbed, sisal fibers are known for their robustness and environmentally friendly attributes. These organic plant-based fibers offer a firm yet responsive cushioning underfoot, supporting a stable and comfortable stride. Sisal’s natural durability makes it an ideal choice for footwear demanding high wear resistance and ecological integrity.

Cotton

Employed in the laces, out cotton has 100 OEKO-TEX® standard and brings a classic touch with its natural softness and strength. This biodegradable material ensures the laces are not only durable but also provide a secure fit while maintaining Baabuk’s commitment to sustainability.
